Where Did You Study Optometry?
Dr. Carpenter attended the University of Maryland – College Park for his undergraduate studies before completing his Doctor of Optometry (OD) from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2013. He completed a six-month rotation at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and his areas of interest include advanced contact lens fitting and binocular vision disorders/prism correction. He also remains an active member of the American Optometric Association and Maryland Optometry Association.
Outside of the Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Carpenter is from Cambridge, which is a short drive away from both of the Bay Vision Studio practices. He’s been with his wife, Meredith, for 25 years. They met in high school and are both from Cambridge! For him and his family, it made sense to return to their hometown to build a practice rooted in community. Dr. Carpenter and his wife have two young boys and two dogs.
In his free time, Dr. Carpenter enjoys wind and water sports. He grew up summer surfing in Ocean City, Maryland and the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Today, he enjoys all things foiling — kitefoiling, wing foiling, and parawinging. He tells his patients that if they see a crazy person out in Chesapeake Bay or Choptank River on the water flying a giant kite, that’s him!
An interesting fact about Dr. Carpenter is that during his undergraduate education he served as an Outdoor Recreation Trip Leader - guiding participants in rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and snowboarding trips. Training for this position included certification as a Wilderness First Responder, and after graduation he became a certified EMT-Basic, kick-starting his pursuit and love of medicine and healthcare.
